Blur jest to jeden z najpopularniejszych brytyjskich zespołów, który tworzy muzykę z gatunku brit pop, indie rock oraz alternatywny rock. Grupa została założona w 1989 roku w Colchester z inicjatywy Damona Albarna (rola w zespole: wokalista, gitarzysta, klawiszowiec), Grahama Coxona (gitarzysta), Alexa Jamesa (basista) i Dave`a Rowntree (perkusista).
Do 1995 roku zespół był niemal książkowym przykładem britpopu, dopiero później poprzez namowy Grahama Coxona, zaczeli tworzyć muzykę, która inspirowana była amerykańskimi indie rockowymi brzmieniami oraz takimi zespołami jak Guided by Vioces czy Pavement.
Po odejściu Coxona zespół zkierował swoje brzmienie w stronę zdecydowanie bardziej ambitnego popu, muzyki elektronicznej oraz muzyki etnicznej. Prawdziwym zaskoczeniem dla fanów zespołu był album Think Tank, który został nagrany w Maroku i niemal każdy utwór przesiąknięty jest arabskimi rytmami.
W tym samym roku Albarn zaangażował się w inne projekty muzyczne, między innymi w działalność grupy Gorillaz. Reeaktywacja nastąpiła po sześciu latach, zespół zaczął wówczas grać na licznych brytyjskich festiwalach. W reaktywowanym składzie występują wszyscy czterej oryginalni członkowie zespołu.
Zespół został uhonorowany nagrodą Królowej Brytyjskiej za rozpowszechnianie kultury Wielkiej Brytanii.
